Prepping the Community Garden ~ By, John Howsden

Prepping the Community Garden
By John Howsden

Early on a warm Saturday morning last week, Doug Rocky and Jack Jimenez prepared the Bill Albee Memorial Copperopolis Community Garden for spring planting. Doug, with his agile Bob Cat, spread over twenty yards of topsoil. Meanwhile Jack, using his industrial strength weed whacker, cut down bushels of dry grass around the fence line.

Even with the late rain storms; the top soil was warm and smelled of freshly turned earth. With the soil primed for seeding and the area clear of weeds, the volunteers are off to the next phase—planting.

Those interested in volunteers or donating to the community garden can contact Copperopolis Parks & Recreation at copperparks@yahoo.com or call 785-PARK.
