Copper Holdings Company interview posted March 4, 2011
Copper Holdings Company has written the recipe for musical success. A perfect blend of the sounds of Santana, a pinch of J Geils, some smooth heartland of Willie Nelson, add in a dash of blues, jazz, and gospel all topped off with a sprinkle of Whitesnake and baked to perfection in the slow simmering heat of the Copperopolis sun and we've got pure rock and roll combustion in our own backyard.
The talent each member of this band brings to the table is without question inspiring.
Dan, on guitar and banjo, has been picking the steel strings since he was 8 years old, leaning toward the long hair bands of the 80’s. Wayne, tickling the ivorys, has been involved with music since he was 15, playing everything from guitar to piano and organ and everything in between, bringing with him a bit of Oklahoma and the country rock-a-billy sound. Norm, on bass guitar, has been playing guitar since he was 11, reveling in the sounds of Santana. Whereas Ed, the rhythm dude on drums, has been playing rhythm since he was 4 years old, venturing into jazz and gospel, finally landing himself firmly in the 70’s and 80’s rock era.
With this eclectic collection of musical backgrounds one would wonder what kind of sound they would create. When asked, Dan said, “We have our own flare when playing signature sounds…(they like to) pick mainstream sounds that give the audience a snapshot in time.” Norm told of a recent concert where the band began to strum out some Frampton and within a few short strums they noticed a lady not far from the stage , her eyes welling up with tears and a huge smile on her face. “That’s what we’re after,” bringing back memories of those wonderful days gone by with great music.
As creative talent tends to not limit itself to just one outlet, Dan Burton has found and excelled at another creative outlet, that of songwriting. Writing not only the lyrics but the composition for 19 recorded works to date, Danny is continuing his writing with even more songs in the works. When asked if his compositions stay as he wrote them, each member readily pitched in. Evidently the composition, though originally written by Dan, quickly becomes a team project. Each member of the band lending his expertise to the song until in unfolds into something amazing, something danceable, something worth remembering.
The Copper Holdings Company…sponsored by the Calaveras County Deputies Association will be appearing at the 2011 Calaveras County Faire on May 20 and May 21st! Finally..rock n roll at the fair!
