BOS Meeting Summaries may no longer be available

According to Diane at the County recorder’s office the Board of Supervisors, at the May 10, 2011 BOS meeting, voted 4-1 to not post meeting summaries on their county website with the nay vote coming from Wilensky. When Supervisor Spellman was questioned at his weekly forum in Copperopolis on May 12, 2011 about his decision to vote in favor of that issue, he stated that his understanding was that the meeting summaries would no longer be posted in news papers, which were “costly to the County.” He said that he “was duped” if it also included not posting them on the county website.
The vote was to post minutes on the county website after they have been approved. Yet without meeting summaries accessible on the site, that information cannot be verified.
Currently bill AB 392 which passed the Assembly Committee on Local Government, is now at the Assembly Committee Asm Appropriations set for hearing. This bill amends the Ralph M. Brown act: posting of agendas. Though Calaveras County currently posts agendas this may impact their decision to not post meeting summaries.
(B) In addition to the requirements of subparagraph (A), at least
72 hours before a regular meeting, the legislative body of the local
agency, or its designee, shall post on its Internet Web site, if any,
any staff generated report that is a writing, as described in
subdivision (a) of Section 54957.5, and that relates to an agenda
item for an open session of the regular meeting of a legislative body
of a local agency. The agency shall post the meeting agenda and the
applicable staff generated reports on the Internet Web site, if any,
in a manner that makes it clear to which agenda item a staff
generated report relates. If the local agency does not have an
Internet Web site, then the posted agenda shall disclose a public
location where the agency shall make any applicable staff generated
report available for copying and inspection by a member of the public
for at least 72 hours prior to the meeting.
Section f… Nothing in this chapter shall be construed to
require a legislative body of a local agency to place any paid
advertisement or any other paid notice in any publication.
