Recently
a local Navy veteran, Kendel Zolezzi was diagnosed with a disease
called hemochromomatosis. This disease is also referred to as 'iron
overload' as too much iron is in the blood causing pain, loss of energy,
weakness, skin discoloration and more.
Through a procedure called phlebotomy,
one liter of blood is removed from the body each week until the iron
level is normal. Kendel will be undergoing this treatment for thirty
weeks at a cost of $300.00 per transfusion.
