Cardiologist to join Mark Twain Medical Center and open Heart Center

SAN ANDREAS, CA – October 10, 2014– Mark Twain Medical Center (MTMC) announces it will be opening a Heart Center under the direction of newly recruited Cardiologist Dr. Courtney Virgilio to the Medical Center Campus, where she will serve as the Medical Director of Cardiac Services.
“She is an outstanding cardiologist,” said Craig Marks, Hospital President. “She will be instrumental in our development of a state-of-the-art Heart Center for the residents of Calaveras County.”





Dr. Virgilio completed her undergraduate studies at Northwestern University, Evanston, IL. She earned her Medical Degree from Loyola Stritch School of Medicine, Maywood, IL. She completed her Internal Medicine Residency at Washington University School of Medicine, St. Louis, MO. She completed her Cardiology Fellowship at Barnes-Jewish Hospital Internal Medicine Residency Program. Dr. Virgilio also studied abroad in Salamanca, Spain. Her Board Certifications include Echocardiography, Nuclear Cardiology (American Society of Nuclear Cardiology), Cardiovascular Disease (American Board of Internal Medicine) and Internal Medicine (American Board of Internal Medicine). Additional advanced training includes Diagnostic Catheterization (COCATS Level 2), Cardiac Computer Tomography (COCATS Level 2) and Registered Physician in Vascular Interpretation Certified (RPVI) by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography. Dr. Virgilio is fluent in Spanish.

We will be bringing all of the top-notch cardiac diagnostic testing and mainstream arrhythmia management locally to benefit our community. I am passionate about Cardiology and I am excited to share this passion as we build this program to benefit the citizens of Calaveras."
Dr. Virgilio, her husband Joe and their children have made their home in Murphys.
