A PACIFIC WEATHER SYSTEM WILL MOVE ONSHORE LATER TODAY BRINGING VALLEY RAIN AND MOUNTAIN SNOW BY TONIGHT ACROSS INTERIOR NORTHERN CALIFORNIA. THE WEATHER SYSTEM WILL SPREAD PRECIPITATION ACROSS MUCH OF THE CENTRAL VALLEY NORTH OF SACRAMENTO BY LATER THIS AFTERNOON. RAIN MAY HOLD OFF UNTIL THE MID TO LATE EVENING HOURS IN THE SACRAMENTO REGION...AND UNTIL THE LATE EVENING HOURS OR AFTER MIDNIGHT FOR THE INTERSTATE 80...HIGHWAY 50 CORRIDOR AND FOR THE NORTHERN SAN JOAQUIN VALLEY. THIS WEATHER SYSTEM WILL BE WARMER AND NOT AS WET AS THE PREVIOUS SYSTEM. SNOW LEVELS WILL GENERALLY LOWER TO 6000 TO 7000 FEET OVER THE INTERIOR MOUNTAINS. SNOWFALL AMOUNTS FROM 2 TO 4 INCHES ARE POSSIBLE ABOVE 7000 FEET WITH A COUPLE OF INCHES DOWN TO AROUND 6500 FEET AND AFFECTING THE PASSES ON INTERSTATE 80 AND HIGHWAY 50. LOCAL SNOWFALL ACCUMULATIONS UP TO 10 INCHES WILL BE POSSIBLE OVER THE HIGHER ELEVATIONS OF MT LASSEN. RAINFALL IN THE VALLEY IS FORECAST TO RANGE FROM ABOUT A QUARTER TO A HALF OF AN INCH. LOCALLY GUSTY WINDS ARE ALSO POSSIBLE AS THE FRONT MOVES THROUGH. RAIN...SNOW AND WIND ARE EXPECTED TO DECREASE ON THURSDAY.
