Burn Suspension Lifted, Restricted Burn Hours
San Andreas
– On
Monday, October 29, 2012 at 8AM, the California Department of Forestry
and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) will begin transitioning toward winter
preparedness in the Tuolumne-Calaveras Unit (TCU).
This includes the Counties of Calaveras, Tuolumne, and those
eastern portions of San Joaquin and Stanislaus that are within the State
Responsibility Area.
CAL FIRE will reduce engine staffing from 21 engines to 15 engines by
releasing some seasonal firefighters. All CAL FIRE stations remain open.
CAL
FIRE burn permits will be required and burning will be permitted with
restricted burn hours of 7PM to 8AM, but only on “Permissive Burn Days” as established by the
Air Pollution Control District in each county. In Calaveras County burning on property five acres or more in size requires a permit from the Air Pollution Control District.
In Tuolumne County clearing two acres or more of vegetation requires a permit from the Air Pollution Control District.
TCU
Unit Chief Brian Kirk reminds everyone that because we are still in
fire season, burn days are established
on the basis of fire hazard severity as well as air quality. "Burn
permits may be suspended again if we have periods of high winds, high
temperatures, extremely low humidity, or a combination of those factors.
But as a general rule, never burn when it's windy,
or when winds are predicted. When burning, do so carefully by remaining
in attendance and having tools and water readily available. Always put
your fire completely out before leaving it. If your fire escapes your
control, you may be liable for suppression
costs and damages. To limit the threat of large and damaging fires, we
need the continued support of each citizen within the four-county area
of the Tuolumne-Calaveras Unit of CAL FIRE.”
It is your responsibility to check burn day status by calling your local Air Pollution Control District with
jurisdiction over your area.
