24 October 2012, at approx. 9:13 am, an Officer observed Elvis
Babcock, 35 of Sonora, walking in the downtown area. A records check on
Babcock revealed he had a felony no bail warrant for his arrest for
possession of a controlled substance.
When Babcock observed the Officer, he started trying to avoid
the Officer. The Officer was finally able to stop the subject on S.
Stewart Street near Gold Street. When the Officer approached Babcock, he
immediately placed his hand in his jacket pocket.
The Officer ordered Babcock to remove his hand, which he refused
to do. The Officer grabbed Babcock’s hand and a struggle ensued. The
Officer was finally able to remove Babcock’s hand from his pocket and
place him into handcuffs.
A search of the pocket revealed a prescription bottle with a
large amount of methamphetamine in it. Babcock also had a glass smoking
pipe with methamphetamine residue inside the bowl.
Babcock was transported to the Tuolumne County Jail and booked
for felony possession of a controlled substance, felony violation of
probation, misdemeanor obstructing an Officer, misdemeanor possession of
drug paraphernalia and for the outstanding felony no bail drug warrant.
