Shakespeare’s final play, The Tempest is a striking fantasy/ romance rich with magic and humor. The play opens on a ship in the middle of a storm. Fearing the ship will split in two, the sailors and nobles aboard abandon ship and make for a nearby island. When the storm subsides, the exiled Duke Prospero and his daughter Miranda appear on the island they have inhabited for 12 years. Using his rescued sprite, Ariel, and an enslaved spirit, Calaban, Prospero leads the shipwrecked nobles thorough a series of mishaps in an atttempt at revenge. Rated “G”
