Steve Kovacs to be the Next Chief
of the Copperopolis Fire Protection District
The Copperopolis Fire Protection
District is proud to announce the hiring of Steve Kovacs as their new Fire
Chief, effective July 1, 2012. He will
replace interim Chief Jeff Millar. Board
President John Maness announced today “We are extremely pleased to appoint
Steve Kovacs as our new Fire Chief. He
is exceptionally well qualified to lead this organization into the future,
having over 30 years of experience in many aspects of the fire service. We, as
a Board are looking forward to working with Chief Kovacs and appreciate his
leadership capabilities and his ability to create collaborative relationships
to assist the district with its future challenges.” With this development, the recruitment
process opened by the Board earlier this year has been cancelled.
Kovacs stated, “I am honored to
be able to serve the Copperopolis Fire Protection District, firefighters,
citizens and visitors. I am fortunate to
be working with dedicated individuals from both the paid staff and volunteers,
as well as the Board of Directors. I
look forward to continuing a strong legacy of community service,
professionalism and integrity that comes with this fire district.”
Chief Kovacs started his career
in 1981 with the Ebbetts Pass Fire District.
He was promoted to Engineer in 1987, Captain in 2000 and to Battalion
Chief, in 2007. He has also been the
Fire Chief at Murphys Fire Protection District for the last six years. He is a past paramedic and is currently the
President of the Fire District’s Association of California.
Chief
Kovacs was raised in Arnold and currently resides in Murphys with his wife of
17 years and two children.
