According to Supervisor Spellman, he, Supervisor Tofanelli, Congressman Dan Lungren, a representative from Assemblymember Kristin Olsen’s office and a representative from USACE will be attending a meeting in Sacramento this Thursday with the Northern California representative from FEMA to discuss the Flood Zone Maps of Calaveras County.
Crediting Tofanelli with coordinating this meeting, Spellman states, “I am just the squeaky wheel.”
Spellman states that the USACE completed an extensive study of many areas within Calaveras County “creating flood maps with people on the ground” not via aerial photography. He further states that these maps were made available to FEMA for use in the flood mapping of the county yet were never utilized.
“This may create a caveat for FEMA to give into us without compromising other county issues.”
Spellman will not be available for his weekly community forum meetings this Thursday due to this meeting.
