Trout: The big browns are biting! Guide Gary Burns of Take It To The Limit Guide Service took Gary Miralles of Shasta Tackle and Paul Belluomini of Big Oak Flat out fishing, and they caught a 5-pound, 14-ounce brown trout on a yellow/orange Shasta Tackle Wiggle Hootchie tipped with ProCure Garlic scented corn, behind a Sling Blade dodger, trolled 30’ deep by the dam. They win Glory Hole Big Fish of the Week Contest. Trollers should target the main lake and upriver, 15-30 feet deep- deeper as the weather warms up. Small, brightly colored lures seem to be working best, behind small dodgers or Sling Blades. Boaters should also try nosing up into creek arms where there is running water, and still-fish there. Bank anglers will have best luck under the Hwy 49 Stevenot Bridge, or the south side of the lake. Whether bank-fishing or still-fishing from your boat, use a long leader or a sliding bobber setup to get the bait out of the grass. Berkeley Power Eggs or Pautzke’s Eggs are a good choice.
