Lungren Votes In Favor Of Ryan Budget Proposal

Washington DC- The House of Representatives passed “The Path to Prosperity: Restoring America’s Promise” – the Fiscal Year 2012 Budget Resolution by a vote of 235 to 193. Congressman Lungren (R-Gold River-CA) voted in favor of Congressman Paul Ryan’s (R-WI) proposal and issued the following statement:
“With our national debt surpassing $14.2 trillion dollars, I voted in favor of the Ryan budget proposal for 2012.  Rep. Paul Ryan has put forth a serious plan that confronts our debt crisis head on and seeks to preserve the mandatory spending programs that so many Americans have come to expect. If we fail to act Medicare will be bankrupt in the not too distant future. It is time for an adult conversation about America’s budgetary solvency while there is still time. For us to fail to act would be a total abdication of our leadership responsibilities.
“The challenges we are facing have been describe by the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Admiral Mullen, “as the greatest threat to our National Security.” The Ryan budget proposal over the next decade returns government spending to its historical average addresses our growing deficits, calls for a simpler- less burdensome tax code and seeks to create a favorable environment for job creators. My constituents understand that we cannot continue to spend money that we do not have. I have an obligation to my family, my constituents and the country to do what I can to help put America on a sustained path to prosperity. ”
