Spellman recall effort could cost taxpayers $30,000

According to Rebecca Andahl of the Calaveras County Elections Department the recall of District 5 Supervisor Darren Spellman could cost the taxpayers of Calaveras County approximately $30,000.

Rebecca stated that the largest amount of that cost is attributed to employee hours for certification of signatures, tallying votes, verifing votes, polling workers, etc. The remainder is a collection of expenses from rental of polling places and ballot costs to envelope, supply and mailing costs.

"Due to the timeline (for the Spellman recall) it will be a special election." Said Andahl.

The costs estimated do not include the cost for an election for the possible vacant seat caused by a recall.
