26 September 2011, at approx. 11:43 am, Officers from the Sonora Police Department responded to a residence located on the 200 block of Gerrymander Ave. regarding a possible stabbing.
When Officers arrived they made contact with two victims. One was a 28 year old transient female, who had received two superficial cuts to her abdomen. The other victim was a male, 61 year old Sonora resident, who had suffered a large laceration to the left side of his face, after being struck by a wood splitting maul.
Both subjects stated that Brian Armstrong, a 22 year old transient, had come to the residence on Gerrymander Ave. While at the residence, Armstrong became agitated for some unknown reason. During a state or rage, Armstrong grabbed a kitchen knife and stabbed at the female victim. Other guests at the residence stopped Armstrong and started chasing him around the house and yard, at which point Armstrong picked up a wood splitting maul and struck the male victim in the face, causing a large laceration.
Armstrong fled the residence on foot and was last seen sliding down a steep dirt embankment. Approximately an hour later, Armstrong was located at his campsite and taken into custody without incident. Armstrong was transported to the Tuolumne County Jail and booked for two counts of assault with a deadly weapon.
The investigation into this matter is continuing.
