24, of Livermore, Calif., assigned to Brigade Special Troops Battalion, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, Fort Drum, N.Y.; died Aug. 31 in a stateside hospital of rabies believed to have been contracted while he was supporting Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan.

40, of Tampa, Fla.; assigned to 1st Battalion, 5th Infantry Regiment, 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division, Fort Wainwright, Alaska; died Sept. 4 at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center, Germany, of injuries sustained Aug. 27 in Kandahar province, Afghanistan, when insurgents attacked his unit using an improvised explosive device.
