Governor and First Lady Honor Spc. Preston J. Dennis

On behalf of all Californians, Governor Brown and First Lady Anne Gust Brown honor Spc. Preston J. Dennis, who bravely gave his life in service to our state and nation. The Governor and First Lady extend their deepest condolences to his family and friends at this difficult time.

In memorial, Governor Brown ordered that flags be flown at half-staff over the State Capitol today. Spc. Dennis' family will receive a letter of condolence from the Governor.

Spc. Preston J. Dennis, 23, of Redding, CA, died April 28 in Kandahar province, Afghanistan, of injuries sustained when enemy forces attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 32nd Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, Fort Drum, NY. Dennis was supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.
