A Copperopolis couple charged with 10 counts of misdemeanor animal cruelty after Calaveras County Sheriff’s deputies seized horses from their home in January will stand trial July 20.
Nigh and Melva Lawhon, both 71, rejected a plea deal offered by prosecutors to resolve the case. Deputy District Attorney Brad Jones said the deal would include the dismissal of charges against Melva Lawhon.
