Copper Mom Captures Best in Show

COPPEROPOLIS, CA (April 1, 2011) – Copperopolis stay-at-home mom, Ileana Grycel, captured First Place and Best in Show with her monochromatic photograph, Toss, yesterday at the awards reception for the 24th annual InFocus Photography Competition & Exhibit in Sonora, California.

Ileana Grycel, a stay-at-home mom and resident of Copperopolis, has been studying photography for the past six months at Columbia College under the mentorship of professional photographer, Allison Fairfield.

“It is overwhelming to have such a special photograph receive such high honors,” says Grycel. “I truly value the mentorship and advice given by my instructor Allison Fairfield.”

Toss, a monochromatic or black and white photograph, was captured with 35mm film and developed using traditional photography methods in the darkroom. The photograph captures the pure joy in the face of a young child while being “tossed” by his father high in the sky.

The InFocus Photography Exhibit, which ran February 5 – March 5, 2011, is project of The Central Sierra Arts Council, located at 193 S. Washington St, Sonora.  To learn more, visit www.centralsierraarts.org. To see more photographs by Ileana Grycel, visit
