Thank You from Copper Hills 4-H Club

The Copper Hills 4-H Club would like to thank Castle and Cooke, Isabelle Moncado and the Copperopolis Town Square management, and, most of all, our wonderful community for your support of our club at the Copper Concert Series in September.  Your $5.00 parking fees allowed us to earn $2500.00 for our club, and over $1600.00 for Bret Harte High School FFA. 

This is an extremely important fundraiser for us, in many ways.  Not only does it provide an educational experience for our members in dealing with the public, but it funds all of our annual expenses.    It allows us to cover the expense of our members’ fair admission fees, as well as purchase needed equipment.  In addition, your donations allow us to give back to this community.  Each year, we donate to worthy causes such as the Copperopolis Food Pantry, Copperopolis Library, Re-Horse Rescue, and care packages for the military.   We also adopt a family each year in Copperopolis and provide them with wrapped Christmas presents which we buy and wrap ourselves. 

This was our 4^th year doing this and we look forward to another successful year next September!  Thank you again for your support!

Fun for the Whole Herd Starts at Frogtown

This Saturday, May 10th!

                Have you “herd” of us?  This Saturday, May 10, at Frogtown, Copper Hills 4-H members will participate in alpaca course competitions, goats and dogs judging with other 4-H groups in the county.  They are looking forward to having a chance to show all they have learned so far this season.  Please come and watch the fun! 

 

4H helps those in need with a litle holiday cheer by, Megan Borzone

On Friday, December 13th, the Copper Hills 4-H Club went shopping for a needy family in Copperopolis.  The four kids asked for things such as Barbie dolls, shoes, warm clothes, and Christmas outfits. After shopping, everyone met up at Copperopolis Elementary to wrap the gifts.

We would like to thank Castle & Cooke for providing us with the opportunity to raise funds during the Town Square Copper Concert Series. Without it, we would not have been able to help this needy family have an unforgettable Christmas.

4H meeting moved to 11-12-13

Copper Hills 4H will meet next Tuesday, Nov 12th at 6pm in the Copper Elementary Gym.

Copper Hills 4H begins a new season

Copper Hills 4H holds their meetings the first Tuesday of every month at Copper School gym, 6:30 p.m. Also, this month, every Saturday in September, the Copper Hills 4H are handling the parking concession for the Copper Concert Series, and the funds go to their club and Bret Harte FFA.

Copper Hills 4-H Supports Re-Horse Rescue

At the May 7 Copper Hills 4-H Club Meeting, the members voted to donate $200 to Raquelle and Tinker at ReHorse Rescue Ranch in Jamestown.  Tinker has incurred a $2500 vet bill as she fights a bone infection in her left front foot.  Copper Hills 4-H has some loving and generous kids!  They worked hard at fund raising to earn their money and we're proud of each and every one of them for the compassion they showed in wanting to give back. Way to go 4-Hers, and thank you to Raquelle and shoer and volunteer Paul Kezis for all they do to save the unwanted, starving, abused and abandoned horses (and Barney the pig)!  Megan Borzone, President of Copper Hills 4-H, presented the check directly to Tinker, who handed it over to Raquelle in trade for some horse cookies.

Trisha Welch Copper Hills 4H brings hme 1st in showmanship

Trisha Welch, a 15 year old sophmore at Bret Harte and a Copperopolis resident, took home a 1st in showmanship at the Calaveras County Fair dog competition held May 11, 2013 with her rescued dog - a 5 year old chihuahua named Duke.

Duke is blind in one eye from a car accident and has a broken ear, but found a loving, caring home with the Welch family.

Trisha has been involved in 4H for 3 years showing goats in the past. This was her first year showing a dog.

Trisha's favorite subject in school is English. "I like to read and I like to write."

Duke and Trisha also won a 2nd place in obedience.

Copper Kids bring home the awards at the County Fair Alpaca competition

At the Calaveras County Fair Alpaca competition held May 11, 2013 at the fairgrounds, 15 year old Paula Myers took home the title of Grand Champion. This is Paula's first year showing alpacas....what a great first year!

 Duncan Welch, 12 years old, brought home1st place Advanced Showmanship, 4th in obstacles, 2nd in public relations, 3rd in packing,& Junior Grand Supreme!  This was Duncan's second year showing alpacas.

Megan Borzone - Letter To Potential Livestock Auction Buyers

My name is Megan Borzone. I am a 16 year old sophomore at Bret Harte High School and am an active member of both the Bret Harte FFA chapter and the Copper Hills 4-H Club, where I am currently serving as President.  My hobbies include leadership, community service, training my dog and showing my horse.  This year, I am also showing a 4-H market lamb at the Calaveras County Fair for the first time.  I hope you will consider purchasing my lamb.

I have spent a lot of time with my Hampshire lamb, Piggy, getting her ready for fair. I spend about 45-60 minutes exercising her each day by jumping her over hurdles, walking, and running.  This entire experience has taught me about proper conformation, animal nutrition, responsibility, financial accountability….and that it’s not easy getting up at 5:30 AM every morning to exercise with my lamb!

Copper Hills 4H Horse Group Volunteers with ReHorse Rescue

On February 23, 2013 a group of children from Copper Hills 4H horse group along with some parents spent the day helping out at Rehorse Rescue in Jamestown.

The group was first introduced to Rehorse when they volunteered at Bridlewood's Horse, Art and Wine event over the past summer. They were so moved by what Raquelle and her team was doing with abandoned, injured and mistreated horses they wanted to help in any way they could. To learn from the ground up they chose to spend a day at the ranch helping Raquelle with all of her rescued horses.

They moved hay, shoveled stalls, blaketed animals and helped where needed.

Megan Borzone, President on Copper Hills 4H said that the most fun was "learning about the stories behind each horse and seeing the amazing progress they have made while at Rehorse Rescue." She said the biggest downside was realizing that "people can be so cruel to such beautiful and innocent animals." The children were able to see before pictures of the animals that they worked with and were hurt by the way they had been treated but were glad that there was such a place as Rehorse to save them. Megan herself had an opportunity to do a little bit of doctoring when she helped doctor an abscessed foot on one of the horses named Max.

Copper Hills 4-H Giving Back to their Community

On Saturday, December 15th,2012, the Copper Hills 4-H club made the trek up to the 
Wal-Mart in Sonora to buy gifts for a needy family of eight. At the November club 
meeting, the club voted unanimously to spend up to $500 of the money that was made 
from doing fundraising events. Everyone had a lot of fun shopping for the 
family. It was a great experience and we are glad to have helped out so 
immensely.

Copper Hills 4-H Spreads Christmas Cheer

On December 21, 2012, members of the Copper Hills 4-H Club helped spread Christmas 

cheer by strolling throughout Copperopolis singing Christmas carols. 

People were delighted when the youth showed up at their doorstep.

Letter from Copper Hills 4-H Youth

At last Friday night's Town Square tree lighting ceremony, the Copper Hills 4-H Club presented a plaque to "Mrs. Claus" to thank Castle and Cooke, Linda Stefanik, the Copperopolis Town Square Management, and the community for their support of local 4-H youth. The club was in charge of the parking concession for the Copper Concert Series in October and, along with Bret Harte High School FFA who loaned the performance stage for the series, allowed them to earn $2800. With these monies, the club will be able to help its members with the many expenses related to showing their animals and other projects at the Calaveras County Fair in May, along with enabling them to give back to their community. Thank you for supporting local youth!

Copper Hills 4-H Recognizes Linda Stefanick and Town Square

At the annual tree lighting ceremony in Town Square on November 23, 2012 members of the Copper Hills 4-H group presented Linda Stefanick with a plaque thanking her for her continued support of the group and their fund raising efforts.

Throughout the September concert season, Town square allowed the 4-H group to charge for parking which helped raise funds for the group to continue functioning in our community.

Copper Hills 4-H Alpaca Project - Pearl Rollings

Copper Hills 4H Alpaca Project Competition

            My name is Pearl Rollings and I am in 4^th grade.  I am in the Copper Hills 4H Alpaca Project this year, and this Saturday, May 12, is our alpaca competition for County fair at 10:00 am. Yay! I can’t wait for fair, so I can show off all the great things I have learned to do with my alpaca.  But I would like to thank my brother the most because I could not be able to show without him.  He showed me many techniques about showing alpacas like always keep a “J” loop and a good attitude because your attitude affects your alpaca’s attitude. 

We will have showmanship and obstacle courses.  We compete against each other, but mostly we just want to do our best.  I can’t wait to show my alpaca because I believe me and my alpaca worked so hard to get to fair that we will succeed.  And maybe, when I’m in high school, I will make it to FFA.  I am really happy learning in 4H.  I also remember when I was a mini-member working with rabbits, I had a lot of fun making presentations at my school.  I watched my big brother, Levi, succeed to being the grand champion for alpaca two years in a row.  When I turned old enough to show this year, I knew I was going to succeed and I believe I will.  Come see the fun everybody.

Copper Hills 4H Begins This Week (9-6-11)

Copper Hills 4H is a program designed for youth ages 5 to 18. Meetings are held on the first Tuesday of each month at 6:30PM in the Copperopolis Elementary Gym.
