Come On Copper, let your Patriotism Fly! by Darrla Westberg
With July 4th fast approaching, The ladies of the VFW Auxiliary Post
12118, have been watching you and have noticed that we live in a very
Patriotic community.
Patriotism is all about expressing, sharing, and enjoying love and pride for the United States of America.
There are lots of ways to show patriotism.
Flying a flag, remembering those that have fought in the military, honoring our veterans—there’s plenty we can do. Sometimes the occasion calls for nothing less than to really let your patriotism shine, and for those occasions, Red, White and Blue is absolutely necessary!
Send us pictures of American Flag displays outside your home or in your neighborhood. Share photos of you, your family, friends, & pets showing off your patriotism. The Copper Gazette will be posting some of those great pictures on the Gazette so starting sending them to the coppergazette@gmail.com. Be sure to include your name and address as well as names of any friends pictured.

Letter to the Editor re: Thank you Firefighters
A BIG THANK YOU!
We wish to convey our heartfelt thanks to all of the CalFire
firefighters, fire agencies, volunteer firefighters and everyone else involved
from the surrounding communities for their amazing effort, dedication, and
their display of professionalism in fighting and controlling the terrible fire
that broke out behind our home on pool Station Road last Sunday.
Without the valiant effort put forth by all these
individuals the outcome would not have been near as good as it turned out to
be.
We would also like to apologize for our neighbors actions in
not allowing fire personnel access through their property to the fire. We are truly baffled by this type behavior!
Too often these dedicated firefighters and volunteers do not
receive the positive recognition they so well deserve. That day these men and women went above and beyond
our expectations.
Again, we cannot convey adequately our thanks to all the
responding firefighters for their efforts. You are a very dedicated and devoted group
and we are grateful to live in a community served by so many caring
individuals.
Our best wishes to all of you for your continued health and
safety.

The

CalFire press release re: Cause of recent fires
Cause Determined on Recent Fires
San Andreas
– Law Enforcement officials with the
Tuolumne-Calaveras Unit of
the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE)
have released causes on three fires that occurred over the last week.
The Reed Fire in San Andreas, which burned 109 acres and destroyed two
structures, was caused by a grinding operation.
The Oak Fire on Pool Station Road near Copperopolis, which burned 88
acres and destroyed one structure, was caused by a grinding operation.
The Rawhide fire on Rawhide Road near Jamestown, which burned one acre,
was also caused by a grinding operation. These
metal-on-metal activities produced a large amount of sparks that landed
in dry vegetation and started these three fires.
State
law requires that any operation of any equipment that can produce a
spark in vegetation covered areas requires the following: (California
Public
Resources Code 4427)
- A minimum 10 foot clearance of all flammable vegetation around the operation area.
- Maintain a shovel and a backpack pump water-type fire extinguisher in the working areas.
Statewide,
California has experienced record-breaking low rainfall, low humidity,
and low fuel moisture levels, along with higher than normal temperatures
and increased fire activity. This year, CAL FIRE opened fire season
months earlier than normal. These recent fires indicate native
vegetation is much more susceptible to ignition and are burning hotter
and faster than normal.
Predictions for temps Mon and Tues to reach over 100

The Sound of Music returns to Fallon House
The foothills will come alive with The Sound of Music
when the classic Rodgers and Hammerstein musical returns July 11
through August 31 at Sierra Repertory Theatre’s historic Fallon House
Theatre in Columbia.
The
delightful musical – based on the true story of the von Trapp family in
Austria – has been captivating audiences for more than half a century,
drawing huge crowds when it first hit Broadway and appearing again six
years later as a much-beloved film.
After 55 years, the show’s appeal is still universal, Sierra Rep’s Artistic Director Scott Viets said.
“There’s something special about The Sound of Music,”
said Scott Viets, Sierra Rep’s artistic director, who directs the show.
“Seven children singing and dancing, a love story, nuns, villains, an
exotic setting – Austria in the 1930s – and that incredible musical
score.”

Local girl, Amy Chraft, enlists in US Army
18 year Bret Harte grad and Copper resident Amy Chraft is looking forward to Jun 29, 2014 when she takes her oath to serve our country in the United States Army.
Her decision to join was based on many factors; an education, travel and curiosity, as well as seeing her good friend Joshua Hines who enlisted last year, doing so well and loving the Army life. "I took my ASVAB the day he left, trying to understand why he would leave. I talked with the recruiter and learned more. I knew I wanted to become a doctor (pediatrician) someday and this would offer me the opportunity to eventually become a doctor." Amy has chosen the MOS 68W, health care specialist.

Winning Ways Advice Column by Marge Powers - 'Dealing with Change'
Dealing With Change
Dear
Marge:
Lately I have been having difficulty
dealing with changes in my life. As soon
as I think I know how things are going to work out, my ideas are so wrong and
the situation changes abruptly.
Sometimes I feel like I don’t have a leg to stand on, so to speak. How can you tell what’s right and not right
when you’re trying to make solid decisions when things are constantly changing? I need some answers and frankly I don’t know
where to start or how to make any sense of all this confusion. What do you think?
Sue Reese
Dear Sue:
Yeah, I know what you mean. I found out myself that had to learn the hard
truth that change is inevitable. I eventually learned how to deal with the
changes in my life and discover how my decisions impacted my mood and how it
affected my life. I eventually realized
that it is possible to see change as an opportunity for growth, instead of
desperately trying to outguess the future and figure out this crazy world. I
learned from some of the following tips; how to empower myself, not worry so
much, and stop and pick ways that worked for me where I felt I had some
semblance of control. Here are some tips to consider which can help
you get through some of the changes and smooth out the bumps in your life.
Good luck, Marge

Public Urged to Use Extreme Caution Due to Drought Conditions - Cal Fire press release
Many Californians and visitors will be celebrating our nation’s independence this July 4 th holiday with fireworks but CAL FIRE urges extreme caution during California's drought emergency.
It can take hundreds of thousands of gallons of water to control a large wildfire.
Effective July 1, 2014, CAL FIRE Chief Ken Pimlott ordered a ban on open burning throughout the 31 million acres of state responsibility area protected by CAL FIRE due to the elevated threat of wildfire caused by the drought emergency.
Angels Camp PD press release re: Kidnapping, Battery on a Peace Officer
On 06/25/14, at approximately 12:25 PM,
an officer from the Angels Camp Police Department was dispatched to the
1400 block of S. Main Street on a report of a male with two small
children walking in traffic. Several reporting parties advised that the
male was acting irrationally, ranting about demons and hitting passing
vehicles as they drove by. One passing motorist reported that the
suspect broke the side-view mirror completely off of the door of their
vehicle. Two deputies from the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office also
responded, and arriving officers found the male subject standing in the
roadway with the two children. The subject was later identified as
Soloman Fleming, a 24-year-old Tacoma, WA resident.
Land wanted - buyers seeking acreage in Angels Camp or Copper Area
If you are thinking of selling your
parcel, please consider this. While many parcels remain unsold for extended
periods of time, we have several buyers seeking acreage for vacation or
retirement in the Angels Camp and Copperopolis Area.
They have $20,000 to $40,000 cash for
a down payment. However, there is no institutional financing for bare
land. Seller financing is needed.
We recommend offering fifteen year
amortized financing at 5% APR with 20% cash down payment. On a $100,000 sale,
the monthly payment would be $632.63.
The seller also may receive tax benefits and cash proceeds at close of
escrow.
