Calaveras Arts Council presents: Grover Anderson in Moke Hill’s Shutter Tree Park

Mokelumne Hill was once a sleepy little hamlet but that was decades ago. It is now a bustling hamlet with lots going on; especially about music.  On Wednesday, July 16, Calaveras Arts Council brings Music in the Parks to Moke Hill’s Shutter Tree Park and the music will be cranked up with folks dancing, Lion’s Club members selling pies and ice cream, and with much more going on.  Music starts at 6:30pm but folks come early to set up camp with their picnic dinners and low back chairs.

Grover Anderson performed last year for MIP but it was one of those summer days when the thermometer read 102 degrees in the shade.  This year the temperature will be cooler but the music will be hot.  Grover is an amazing, singer-songwriter based out of Murphys with an intellect and style in the prolific traditions of the folk-rock pioneers of the 60s and 70s. Grover says the industry requires a genre so he is all about folk but he prefers to known as a story teller.  Regardless of his genre, the crowds will be engaged by his music and storytelling.   Grover is accompanied by foothill musicians Kevin Bernido on bass; Josh Certo on drums; and Chris Stevens on lead guitar.

Sit back; enjoy an evening of music with Suprecret’s long list of classic rock, blues, jazz, reggae and county music.  Calaveras Arts Council’s Free Music in the Park 2014 series will fill the air in Valley Spring at the Ball Field on July 9.  Music begins at 6:30pm and ends at 8:00pm.  Bring your low back chairs, picnic dinner and beverages of choice.

Suprecret has a newer history as a performing duo but each musician has a lifelong involvement and performance experience in music.  Don Barker on vocals and guitar with JoAnn Ebbett on piano and vocals bring their intimate ballads, rock and roll, blues, reggae and country sound on stage for the audience to enjoy.  However, don’t just sit there, get up and dance.

Really cool, modern rock will bring Calaveras Arts Council’s Free Music in the Park 2014 series to new highs at West Point Elementary School, Ball Field on July 2.  The Hot Dark, one of the most popular rock bands in the foothills, performs their new sound, musical prowess and dexterity for all who come.  Everyone from near and far is welcome.  Music plays from 6:30 to 8:00 pm, but come early, bring your picnic dinner, and sit back and enjoy the evening. Remember to bring non-alcoholic beverages of choice.  Alcoholic beverages are not allowed on school property.

Opting to play the whole length of the concert without a break, Scotsman Donnie McDonald and Irsihman James Keigher of 'Men of Worth'  performed, informed and told tales through their performance at CAMPS restaurant for the June 25th Calaveras Arts Council Music in the Parks series.

Music in the Park series : Men of Worth Return to Music in the Parks at CAMPS Restaurant, Greenhorn Creek, Angels Camp

Calaveras and foothill favorites, Men of Worth, are back again for the 2014 Music in the Parks series. The lovely outdoor setting at Greenhorn Creek’s CAMPS Restaurant in Angels Camp is the location for the Wednesday, June 25 performance.  Music begins at 6:30pm and ends at 8:00pm. Come early and bring your low back chairs, picnic goodies, or purchase dinner from the restaurant and enjoy the summer evening with these fine Celtic musicians and story tellers with your family and friends.

The folk duo, Men of Worth is Scotsman Donnie Mcdonald and Irish musician Jimmy Keigher.  Their beautiful blend of voices and the intricately intertwined instrumentation is amazing for a duo.  Their stories and interaction with the audience draws you into another world where you can let the stresses of your day melt away.   They position themselves firmly at the extreme, traditional end of the Celtic music spectrum.  Their tunes and songs are so authentic, so closely connected to their heritage, that Donnie Macdonald sings some in his native Gaelic; while Irishman James Keigher includes time-polished pieces saved from the oral traditions of his native County Mayo.

Music in the Park concert series opens in Town Square by Kristina Zimmerman

Copperopolis kicked off the summer of 2014 right with the first concert of the Calaveras Arts Council Music in the Park series featuring Snap Jackson and the Knock on Wood Players.

The Music in the Park concert was a fun night for everyone, with an old fashion country band to keep the residents entertained throughout the evening. A summer vibe was felt throughout the night, with laughter and the sound of chatter everywhere. Children danced and played, while many ‘out of towners’ joined in reverie. 

Representatives from the Calaveras Art Council were extremely excited for the upcoming season with each week featuring a different sound.

For over two decades Calaveras Arts Council has hosted free summer concerts.  Music in the Parks 2014 will be another great music series.

The “first day of summer” starts a week earlier in Calaveras County.  On Wednesday, June 11, the Calaveras Arts Council begins its 23^nd year of providing free music in the county parks from Copperopolis to Arnold, and Valley Springs to West Point.  This fun fill musical road show is called Music in the Parks.  Residents and visitors pack up their favorite picnic treats, pull together their lawn chairs and blankets, and set out for ten weeks of great music, family friendly environments, and kick back to savor the experience.

The Rupert Duncan Country Band will perform for the Season Finale of the Calaveras County Arts Council’s Music in the Parks Series at Arnold Cedar Center on Wednesday, August 14,

from 6:30 – 8:00 pm.  Rupert Duncan is a country music singer-songwriter from Northern California. He grew up listening to all kinds of music from country to bluegrass and classic rock. Hank Williams Sr., George Jones, Merle Haggard and Keith Whitley are among his influences. Rupert’s goal is to have a fresh country sound that is original, unique and radio friendly.

Calaveras Arts Council presents Murphys musician, Bill Welles on July 24.

Join family and friends on Wednesday, July 24 at Murphys Community Park for Calaveras Art Council’s Free Music in the Parks.  Local musician, Bill Welles will be performing with Mike Phelan, Ray Price, Kris Osward, and Erin Ross.  Mexican restaurant, El Jardin, will be at the park offering some entrees for your picnic at affordable prices.  Beverages are also available.  Music begins at 6:30 and ends at 8:00pm.  Come early to enjoy the park and play among the running waters of the Murphys Creek.

Zydeco in the Foothills

The Calaveras Arts Council is to be thanked for bringing the lively sounds of Zydeco to the foothills with their hosting of The Bayou Boys at the second Music in the Parks concert at Utica Park in Angels Camp on June 19, 2013.

Cajun music, country and zydeco were on the menu that evening with the Bayou Boys not taking a break. Dancing was the name of the game, young and old alike enjoyed the sounds and participated in the dance. Even a lively dog or two enjoyed the sounds.

Thank you Calaveras Arts Council for another wonderful evening of music!
