Calaveras County Exhibit Wins “Best Visitor Experience” at California State Fair

ANGELS CAMP, CA (July 16, 2013)—The Calaveras Visitors Bureau has won “Best Visitor Experience” at the California State Fair for its interactive county booth that promotes area tourism.  This special honor was awarded this past Friday along with the county’s fifth consecutive Gold Award for its annual exhibit.

The theme of this year’s booth, which will be available for viewing at the California State Fair thru July 28, is “Calaveras:  Your Family Adventure Land.”  The award-winning exhibit, which allows people to explore Calaveras’ family-friendly adventures, features four hands-on games that show off the best of the area’s attractions.

To promote picturesque Historic Highway 49 and the Ebbetts Pass National Scenic Byway, families can “drive a car” around Calaveras County.  There is also an opportunity for visitors to “boat around a Calaveras lake” and experience one of the county’s many water sports.  And since no Calaveras County exhibit would be complete without including the Calaveras County Fair and Jumping Frog Jubilee, the booth also features two frog-themed games, including “Golfing Frog” focused on Calaveras’ five golf courses and a “Frog Jump” that mimics Whac-A-Mole.

According to Lisa Boulton, Executive Director of the Calaveras Visitors Bureau, the main goal of the exhibit is to have a highly interactive experience that shows State Fair goers, who are ultimately potential visitors, that Calaveras is a one stop adventure land for families.

Beyond the games, the booth also promotes kid-friendly activities like kayaking, gold panning, zip lining and hiking among the giant sequoias at Big Trees State Park, while at the same time, provides fun facts about the region and its rich history.  Kids also get to take home their very own “jumping frog” souvenir (a mini plastic frog that you can make jump) to help them remember the fun time they had experiencing everything that makes Calaveras County a perfect family vacation spot.

As always, our goal is to get people excited about visiting Calaveras County,” she said. “You’d be surprised at how many people come through the Visitors Center doors in Angels Camp and say, ‘We saw you at the State Fair!’”
