Western Days in Copperopolis Town Square
held the unexpected for Copperopolis residents as they were transported back in
time to an era long ago filled with cowboys, gamblin’ halls, cantinas and
plenty of horsin’ around fun for the kids.
The Sierra Six Guns and Side Kicks of Auburn set up
a small mock western town complete with gunslingers and gamblers. The group put
on skits throughout the day beginning with a gun safety skit and ending with a
shoot out at the makeshift bar/gambling establishment over a questionable
gambling debt – all with blanks.
Many vendors offered their wares from saddles and
horse blankets to wood carvings and beef jerky.
Roping demonstrations were held at the Copper Star
Pack and Trail Company as well as a petting zoo complete with miniature horses
and hungry goats for children to pet and feed.
The California Outlaws entertained the crowd with
their own flavor of country and western music as well as a little rock thrown
in for good measure.
Hardluck Lin, a master storyteller, wove tales of
the Gold Rush during her hayday in the Mother Lode lending insight into the
world of the west when she was indeed wild.
Western Days was a collaborative effort from the
merchant event steering committee of Copperopolis Town Square.
