Sheriff Dept Press Release re:Copperopolis Burglary Suspects Arrested

On 02/02/12 at approx. 1313 hours, the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a commercial burglary at McCarty’s Inn in Copperopolis. According to the business owner, Nancy Turner, on 02/01/12 an adult male and female entered the laundry room of the business and vandalized two of the laundry machines. In addition, the suspects stole approx. $50.00 in quarters from the machines’ coin boxes; the laundry room has an exterior door at the front of the building. The investigating deputy was able to obtain a surveillance video from the business that showed the suspect vehicle parked in front of the laundry room near the time that the burglary occurred. The video also showed the suspects exit their vehicle, enter the laundry room, and then walk back out to their truck, where they loaded the top of one of the laundry machines into the back of the truck.



On 02/04/12 at approx. 1120 hours, while on patrol near Angels Camp, deputies located the suspect vehicle driving on Highway 4. The occupants of the vehicle matched the descriptions of the suspects in the surveillance video. Sheriff’s Deputies conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle in Angels Camp and contacted three vehicle occupants, identified as Matt McCormack (26) of Turlock, Shelly Taylor (35) of Empire, and Randy Linson (25) of Modesto. McCormack and Taylor were positively identified as the people who burglarized the laundry room.
During the traffic stop the deputies located burglary tools inside the truck, including pry bars, crow bars, bolt cutters, a cutting torch set, screw drivers, an electric grinder, and area real estate maps. Additionally, subsequent to the search after arrest controlled substances were located on McCormack and Taylor. The deputies also discovered that Matt McCormack is a wanted parolee at large, Randy Linson is on active parole, and Shelly Taylor is on probation.
All three subjects were booked into the CCSO jail on the following charges:
McCormack: 460(B) PC (felony), 594(b)(1) PC (felony), 182(A)(1) (felony), 11357(A) HS (felony), 3056 PC (felony), 466 PC (misdemeanor), 14601.1(A) VC (misdemeanor), and 11357(B) HS (infract.) Taylor: 460(B) PC (felony), 466 PC (misd.), 594(b)(1) PC (felony), and 182 (A)(1) PC (felony) Linson: 11550(A) HS (misdemeanor), 3056 PC (felony), and 466 PC (misdemeanor)
