Modesto – Freshman legislator Assemblywoman Kristin Olsen (R-Modesto) is kicking off her re-election campaign in Assembly District 12 with $231,358 cash on hand, her campaign announced today. Olsen has a lifetime commitment to the Central Valley that includes her childhood home, her former district when she served on the Modesto City Council and her current home.
In the Assembly, Olsen currently holds the position of Minority Whip, and has earned a reputation for reform, transparency, and hard work. While others have struggled with fundraising efforts largely due to the troubled economy, Olsen has earned the confidence of others and continued to raise money successfully.
“My focus has been on problem-solving and not partisan politics and I think people are really responsive to that,” said Olsen. “My job is to find realistic, fiscally responsible, and functional solutions for the challenges we are facing, and that is exactly what I have done. There is obviously a long way to go, but I’m grateful for the incredible showing of support I have already received in my efforts.”
Olsen has established herself in the district as uniquely accessible and responsive. Her current district covers a vast area, with thousands of residents in the Sierra foothills.
"Keep your eye on Kristin Olsen," said Carol Whiteside, founder of The Great Valley Center and partner at California Strategies. "She's a quickly rising political star who is beholden to her principles and not special interests or the status quo - and people are taking note."
Olsen and her husband, Rod, have three children, are active in the community, and attend Big Valley Grace Community Church.
