Calaveras County Firefighters Home from So Cal Fire

Last week CalFire teams from Calaveras County were sent to Southern California to battle 6 fires totalling 10,740 acres. The teams included: five Cal Fire engines with five firefighters on each engine, and 15 strike teams, each including one engine and three firefighters, from Jenny Lind, Altaville, Murphys, West Point and Ebbetts Pass fire districts. The fire was located in Eastern Kern County near Tehachapi.

Two differnet sources state the cause of the start of the fire. The Union Democrat stated that the fire was started when a single-engine Cessna airplane crashed in a remote area, killing two people on board. The CAL FIRE news site states that the fire was started by lightening strikes.

However the fires began, as of 8:30 am 9-14-11, they are now 100% containied at a cost of  $7.2 million dollars and 3 injuries.
