Letter from Senator Ted Gaines

I have launched a joint effort with El Dorado County District Attorney Vern Pierson to strengthen California’s public safety protection in light of the circumstances surrounding Jaycee Lee Dugard’s kidnapping and captivity.
On August 3rd, District Attorney Pierson and I will hold a community discussion at the State Capitol along with law enforcement leaders and victims’ rights organizations to explore deficiencies in state law and identify potential legislative solutions to prevent these kinds of tragedies from ever occurring again.

While there have been a number of reports released about the case that point to where the system went wrong, we need to be focused on how to fix it. I urge anyone with ideas or suggestions for reform to attend the community discussion or contact me at (916) 651-4001 or via email at senator.gaines@senate.ca.gov.
Below are the details of the meeting:
COMMUNITY DISCUSSION ON PUBLIC SAFETY
Wednesday, August 3
10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

We hope to see you there in support of this important issue.
