Hi, Quilters--
Here's the list of fabric and items you will (or might) need for our quilting workshop on Saturday, September 3rd, at Black Creek Park building from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. PLEASE EMAIL OR CALL ME IF YOU PLAN TO ATTEND. If you know others who are interested, please have them call me at 785-3631--there is no charge for the workshop. Happy fabric-shopping!! --Patt
FABRIC
- Background: two and three-fourths (2-3/4) yard lighter batik or asian print
- Accent 1: one-eighth (1/8) yard medium-to-dark bright asian or solid color
- Accent 2: one-third (1/3) yard darker asian print or solid color
- Binding: one-half (1/2) yard (suggestion: match or same as accent 2 fabric? or background fabric)
- Backing: 4 yards
- Blocks: asian print--will need 100 four-inch squares (= appx 5 fat quarters*) and 25 three-inch squares (= appx 1 fat quarter*)
- Blocks (center square): asian print--will need 25 *you will want a variety of these squares in a range of colors. also note that one fat quarter will yield approximately 20 four-inch squares. so...six fat quarters should be what you need for the squares that go into the blocks.
EQUIPMENT
- rotary cutter
- cutting mat
- quilting ruler
- sewing machine
- thread to match or blend (probably an off-white and a dark)
- scissors
- extension cord (if you have one available)
- (provided) pressing tables & irons
OTHER ITEMS and NOTES
- Bring a snack to share.
- Coffee and tea will be provided.
- Be there a little early, if possible, to arrange your work area.
- Feel free to pace yourself to your speed; the following schedule is a guideline to help us maximize the time we have allocated. I will be available to help wherever and whenever I can.
- To get a head start, you might want to press your fabric before the day of the workshop (rolling it will prevent most of the fold lines).
ATTEMPTED SCHEDULE
- 9:30 Introduction in overview of project.
- 9:40 Cutting fabric with a rotary cutter.
- 9:50 Cutting blocks and strips.
- 10:50 Break for snack.
- 11:10 Sewing strips together.
- 11:40 Cutting strips into blocks.
- 12:00 Sewing your first block(s).
- 1:00 Overview of progress. Discussion and/or Questions.
- 1:15 Clean-up.
