Copper Library Summer Readers logged in 600 hours of reading

Over the summer the Copperopolis branch library hosted their yearly Summer Reading Program titled "one World Many Stories" from June 7th to August 12, 2011, with 42 children participating in the reading program, logging in just over 600 hours of summer reading.

The summer reading program wasn't just about reading, it was about crafts, exploration of other countries, and sharing stories. Volunteers, Aurora Qualls and Carla Lucas, arranged free weekly craft classes for the children. Each craft correlated to a story from 'around the world' that was read to the children.

Bark n Bubbles Grand Opening - bubbles of fun

Saturday August 27, 2011 was the Grand Opening for the new self service dog wash Bark n Bubbles, located in Lake Tulloch Plaza by IGA.

Doggies of all sorts brought their owners to visit the new shop to get a good wash or just to shop for new toys.

One family's four-legged friend was treated to a family scrub down with mother and son pulling double duty with the bubbles and the scrubbing. The mom said it was so much nicer than putting her dog in the tub at home. Not hard on the back at all and fun for her young son.

Spellman Still Working on County Noise Ordinance

Together with Supervisor Wilensky, Copperopolis resident Jack Cox, County Counsel Janice Elliot, Supervisor Darren Spellman has been working on a noise ordinance plan for Calaveras County.

"One size fits all does not work" said Spellman, pointing out that what may work in West Point may not work on Lake Tulloch, the county will need "site specific policies."

Spellman said that as soon as the County Planning Director gets a handle on the general plan and the plan is pushed through with what is required by the state to become compliant, then a generic noise ordinance can be put in place with site specific community plans including their own noise ordinances.

Generic noise ordinances usually include policies that require no loud noises after 10 pm Sunday through Thursday and after midnight Friday and Saturday.

Coldwell Banker Raises Money for the Copperopolis Friends of the Library

Coldwell Banker Copperopolis has long been a supporter of the Copperopolis Friends of the Library (FOTL). The consistent support they show for the library has been unwavering throughout the years, selling hotdogs at homecoming, holding raffles and silent auctions.
August 20, 2011 Coldwell Banker held a raffle to raise funds for the Copperopolis FOTL at the well attended Town Square Summerfest. Raffle prizes ranged from gift certificates to wine baskets, candy to clothing, with the piece d’resistance a gas bar-b-que. Many waited with baited breath as they spun the ticket basket for the large bar-b-que donated by Town Square. After the name was called screams erupted and the lucky winner, Stacey, hugged and high fived all those congratulating her.

Coldwell Banker raised $1,500.00 this year for the Copperopolis Friends of the Library.
The Coldwell Banker Summerfest Raffle and Homecoming Auction gang consisted of Kathy Williams, Jamie Rhinehart, Sonja Winfield, Melinda Stanley,  along with friend and fellow supporters Caryn Garner and Wayne Winfield.
A special thanks was sent out from Coldwell Banker to Linda Stefanick of Town Square for her generous help in the last minute preparations for the raffle held at the Town Square Summerfest.

Recall is a Go – Interview with Michael McDaniel

In a telephone interview 8-29-11, Michael McDaniel, the driving force behind the  Supervisor Spellman recall effort, stated that the recall has been “approved and on the move.”
According to McDaniel, Calaveras County “has approved our petition and verbiage and have given us the green light to start collecting signatures.”
McDaniel and recall supporters have until November 28, 2011 to collect 1702 valid signatures of registered voter residents within the previous District 5. “Our goal is to collect 2000” said McDaniels, hoping to offset the possible invalid signature potential, saying that supporters of the recall don’t want anything “to hamper the recall” effort.
When asked when signature collection would begin, McDaniels stated, “Signatures will begin to be collected by the end of this week.” He also asked for those who wished to become involved to contact him at 981-7200.
In an earlier interview with Supervisor Spellman, Spellman felt that the recall effort was hampering his effectiveness as a Supervisor, stating, “There are so many things I am working on, it (the recall effort) takes away from my ability to be as effective as I could be.” He also asked that voters contact him with any questions and wishing to dispel rumors, he says, “talk to me.”
Spellman can be reached via email at  dspellman@co.calaveras.ca.us

Umpqua Bank , Learn to Earn- teaching saving principles early

Umpqua Bank believes in investing its time and energy into the community through many community service orgaizations to benefit the community within which they operate their branches.

Copperopolis Branch pushes that thought process just a little further, jumping in with their boots on when seemingly any organization asks for support or help. Throughout the years they have helped with the food pantry, collecting school supplies for the school and to hand out to children in need, held open house Parks and Rec info / customer appreciation days, displayed quilts for veterans, schools, fire departments, and so much more.

As the new school year starts, Umpqua Bank employees will be volunteering their time before their work day begins to teach the children of Copperopolis Elementary the fundamentals and benefits of saving. This will be the third year Umpqua Bank has offered and run this program for the children at the elementary school.
