BUMP IV - Concerns Over Local Emergency Response

In response to a concerned citizen’s question as to whether the BUMP IV party scheduled for this weekend at Lake Tulloch will have a negative or potentially harmful impact on emergency response to the local area, the Copper Gazette followed up with some research.
There currently are 1635 RSVP’s, on Facebook alone, to the Lake Tulloch BUMP IV party 2011, the estimate of actual attendees could possibly be 1800 to 2000.
According to Annette at the Calaveras Planning Department the Lake Tulloch Resort has permitted use for such events, with one caveat; the events are not to exceed 1000 people. “Our new policy states that if an event exceeds 1000 people, or is expected to, then the business is required to apply for a conditional use permit which would address the needs of parking, emergency response, and more.” The Lake Tulloch Resort did not apply for a conditional use permit this year.
The Planning Department has received multiple calls regarding this issue and will be penning a letter to the Lake Tulloch Resort alerting them to the requirement to apply for a use permit for any additional events exceeding 1000 people.
According to the Copperopolis Fire Protection District, Paramedic staffing has been increased throughout the weekend. A CFPD Paramedic will be partnered with the Sheriff’s Department Marine Patrol on Lake Tulloch both Saturday and Sunday, while another CFPD Paramedic will be on an engine to respond to calls.
The Sheriff’s Department was not available for comment at the time this article was written. If they respond to the various emails or voicemails left by the Gazette, the Gazette will update with their response.
It is not known, at this time, if the cost of the additional manpower and emergency personnel will be the responsibility of the Lake Tulloch Resort.

Update: 7:15 am 8-13-11,
According to Sheriff Kuntz extra personnel have been placed on duty over the weekend for the various events occuring throughout the foothills.
