Spellman Running for Congress stating "Lungren has done nothing and will continue to do nothing."

“One of the reasons I am running for Congress is because Lungren has done nothing and will continue to do nothing.” Stated Spellman at his weekly forum in Copperopolis on May 5, 2011.
Spellman further stated, “Lungren has 30 years in the system…senior ranking Congressman, on the Homeland Security Commission”  when it comes to representing his constituents with regards to the redrawing of the FEMA Flood Zone maps “if anyone can press the issue…he can.” Yet Spellman clearly stated that he felt with all the knowledge and power Lungren possesses that he has yet to use it to help the many constituents he represents in the areas that have been negatively affected by the new FEMA Flood Zone maps.
Spellman said that since he made his announcement on Saturday at the Lungren Town Hall in Angels Camp, he has received many emails and calls supporting him. He smiled saying he knew there were a lot of folks out there that think he’s crazy but that he fully intends on following through with this. As soon as he raises $5,000.00 he will be required to submit his paperwork and file. Yet “I’ve been told I will need $500,000.00 to run” a successful campaign.
Spellman feels his ace in the hole is Proposition 14 that the voters passed last November allowing for an open primary. With prop 14 “anybody can put their name in the hat…it doesn’t matter the party affiliation.”
When asked if he would continue his job as Supervisor for District 5 while campaigning, he replied that he would represent his constituents until he was elected and when or if the time came to appoint someone to take his place on the BOS that he “would have a lot to say about that.”
