New Melones Fishing Report

Trout:    With the kokanee action so hot, few anglers are targeting trout, but we are seeing the occasional rainbow thrown in with a limit of kokanee.  Kokanee Power released their rainbow trout from the pens last week.  Every year, these fish are raised in pens in the marina built by members of Kokanee Power, where marina employees feed them daily.  These big 2-3 pounders are still hanging around in Glory Hole Cove and the mouth of Glory Hole Cove.  Bank anglers should try the cove behind the marina with Power Bait, and trollers should try the entrance of the cove and the waters directly in front of the cove, from 5-20 feet deep, and tie on an Uncle Larry’s Power Spin, that is designed to hold Power Bait while trolling, since Power Bait is designed to smell like the hatchery feed the penned trout have been eating.  Boaters should also try nosing up into creek arms where there is running water, and still-fish there for nice holdovers.
