Angels Camp PD press release: Update on Credit Card Skimmer

Following this morning’s press release regarding a credit card skimmer installed inside a local Chevron gas pump, the Angels Camp Police Department has received a number of comments expressing concern that the release reflected poorly on the business involved.  Nothing could be further from the truth. 

Because of the vigilance of Nash Chevron and its employees, the skimmer was detected and reported to Angels Camp Police Department.   The Angels Camp Police Department applauds Nash Chevron for proactively preventing additional incidents of credit card theft.

Angels Camp PD press release re: Credit Card Skimmer Located Inside Gas Pump / ACPD Case #13-0858

On 07/23/13 at approximately 8:15 AM, Nash Chevron, located at 686 S. Main Street, reported that they had found a credit card skimmer inside one of their gas pumps.

A skimmer is an electronic device that can record credit card information. The skimmer located at Nash Chevron was undetectable to customers because it was connected inside the gas pump.

Employees of Nash Chevron routinely check their pumps for skimming devices; however it is unknown exactly how long the device was in the gas pump. The device could have been in the pump for up to 5 days.

Other gas stations in the City have been notified to check their gas pumps for skimming devices.

The Angels Camp Police Department is encouraging everyone to be vigilant in protecting themselves from fraudulent activity by monitoring their bank statements and credit reports for any unauthorized activity. To avoid skimmers use your credit or debit card inside the store, and use cash whenever you can.

ON JULY 24, 2013, AT APPROXIMATELY 0640 HOURS, MCPHEE WAS STOPPED IN VEHICLE (CHEVY) AT THE END OF HIS DRIVEWAY, PREPARING TO MAKE A LEFT TURN ONTO POOL STATION RD.  THEIN WAS DRIVING HIS VEHICLE (SUZUKI), ON POOL STATION RD. S/B SOUTH OF ONETO RANCH, AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED.  MCPHEE STATED THAT HE WAS STOPPED, WITH WINDOWS DOWN, LOOKED BOTH WAYS, AND DID NOT HEAR OR OBSERVE ANY ONCOMING TRAFFIC.  MCPHEE THEN PROCEEDED TO TURN LEFT ONTO N/B POOL STATION RD., WHEN HE SUDDENLY OBSERVED THEIN COMING S/B, OVER THE CREST OF A HILL, AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED.  THEIN APPLIED THE BRAKES SHARPLY AND SKIDDED INTO LEFT FRONT CORNER OF THE CHEVY PICK UP.  THEIN SUSTAINED FATAL INJURIES AS A RESULT OF THIS COLLISION AND WAS PRONOUNCED DECEASED AT THE SCENE.

CHP PARTICPATES IN NATIONWIDE I-80 CHALLENGE TO SAVE LIVES DURING SUMMERTIME TRAVEL

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The California Highway Patrol (CHP) is joining 10 other state
highway patrol agencies across the nation to participate in the “I-80 Challenge,” which sets a
goal of zero fatalities on the 2,900 miles of Interstate 80 from California to New York from July
24 through July 31 by enhancing traffic safety, enforcement and education along this section of
the National Highway System.
“We are excited to partner with our colleagues across the nation to improve safety along the
Interstate 80 corridor in California,” said CHP Commissioner Joe Farrow. “California’s
highways are safer when everyone follows basic traffic safety rules: always wear a seat belt,
drive at a speed safe for roadway conditions, eliminate distractions while driving, and always
designate a sober driver.”

CDCR Update on prisoner mass hunger strike

SACRAMENTO – As of today, 7-22-13, 986 inmates in 11 state prisons are on a mass hunger strike disturbance, according to the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR). An inmate is considered to be on a hunger strike after he has missed nine consecutive meals. Today, 42 inmates in one state prison refused to participate in their work assignments.

Participation in a mass disturbance and refusing to participate in a work assignment are violations of state law, and any participating inmates will receive disciplinary action in accordance with the California Code of Regulations, Title 15, Section 3323(h)(A) and Section 3323(f)(7).

Inmates identified as leading and perpetuating the disturbance are subject to disciplinary action in accordance with the California Code of Regulations, Title 15 Section 3315(a)(2)(L) and may be removed from the general population and be placed in an Administrative Segregation Unit pursuant to CDCR’s hunger strike policy.

Twisted Oak Bringing bluegrass to the foothills August 2, 2013

Starting out a couple years ago as "an experimental spoken word bluegrass band," (doesn't that sound commercially viable?) The Deadly Gentlemen are now playing what they call a mix of "epic folk and grasscore." What does this mean? Well, there are five band members: Greg Liszt (also of Crooked Still), banjo and vocals; Stash Wyslouch, guitar and vocals; Mike Barnett, fiddle and vocals; Dominick Leslie, mandolin and vocals; and Sam Grisman, double bass and vocals.
Instead of having a lead singer, they use a nonstop orchestration of somewhat unconventional vocals, with everybody in the band doing everything they can. Expect a lot of three-part harmony singing, group shouting, really dense rhymes and an almost rap-like phrasing. Their songs have kind of a rock ‘n’ roll feel, despite the acoustic bluegrass instrumentation.
Some of their songs started out as miniature epic poems based on folk songs. That’s where the term “epic folk” comes from. The grasscore songs are the ones where everybody in the band throws caution to the wind and goes completely berserk. Kind of the punk or hardcore mentality, but applied to bluegrass. And please... don’t call it a boy band.

Taxpayers Annual BBQ

Taxpayers Annual BBQ

The Calaveras County Taxpayers Association will host its annual BBQ on Wednesday, July 24, 5 to 8:30 PM, at Moaning Cavern Park.

The keynote speaker will be Jon Coupal, President, Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association, which helped pass Prop 218 which allows water ratepayers the power to reject unreasonable rate increases and  filed the lawsuit to stop the illegal California Fire Tax.

Also speaking will be Senator George Runner of the Board of Equalization who also opposed the “Fire Fee”.

Tuolumne County Most Wanted

7-23-13

The Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Department is asking for assistance in locating Tyler Adam Borland. He is a 30 year old white male, with brown hair and blue eyes. He is 5’ 10” and weighs approx. 206 pounds. He is wanted on Felony charges of Spousal Abuse.

Please note that Tyler Adam Borland is being sought to face these charges in court. He has not been convicted of these offenses.
