Power Fire 32% contained 881 acres

Summary: Last night, fire crews continued to hold and make good progress constructing additional line and reinforcing existing lines on the fire. The Power Fire was reported on August 5, 2013 at 5:38 a.m. The fire is located in the Middle Fork of the Stanislaus River, 4 miles northwest of the community of Pinecrest. This is very steep and rugged terrain with critically dry vegetation, hardwood slash, brush and timber. Crews are contending with material rolling out and loose rocks and trees falling downhill. Dozers are continuing to put in line and tying into roads along ridgetops. Hand crews will continue constructing containment lines. Firefighter and public safety are primary objectives
All roads, (with the exception of forest road 5N95 at Beardsley Road), local businesses and recreation areas remain OPEN.
The management of the Power Fire transitioned from the Stanislaus National Forest to the Southern California Incident Management Team 2 on Aug. 6, 2013.
Road & Trail Closures / Evacuations: The team is asking the public to avoid forest road 5N95 at Beardsley Road due to fire apparatus traffic. There are no evacuations in place for the fire area. However, as with any incident, the public should be prepared to leave on short notice.
Structure Information; There are 100 residences threatened which are located in the communities of Bumblebee, Leland Creek and Cow Creek. There have been no structures damaged or destroyed.
Predicted Weather: The forecast for today calls for mostly clear with temperatures between 72 and 76 degrees. Maximum humidity expected between 28-33 percent. Winds will be out of the southeast with peak gusts at 15mph.

Power fire 12% contained at 500 acres

Power Fire is near Beardsley Lake east of Hells Half Acre Rd. and parallel to Hwy 108.
During the day up canyon winds are typically 12 to 18 mph and change directions in the late afternoon to down canyon. Residence near Beardsley and in the lower elevation may notice a significant amount of smoke. At this moment the fire has consumed 500 acres and is 12% contained. The fire is burning upslope and up canyon. The steep terrain is difficult for fire fighters and their safety is our primary concern.
The fire started at the river and has been kept to the SE side of the canyon. The elevation change is 3800 ft. at the river and 6000 ft. at HWY 108. No closures. We ask that people be cautious and be aware that fire equipment will be in the area. Please drive slowly and be aware that heavy smoke could cause temporary road delays.
Resources include 12 hand crew, 7 helicopter, 10 engines, 3 dozer, 5 helitak, and7 fixed wing. The total personnel currently assigned to this fire is now 365.
There was an incident at 1000 yesterday morning where a 40 inch oak tree burned through a rotten core and fell onto and engine severely damaging the engine. No one was hurt as the crew was away from the engine laying out hose. A safety team will be looking into the incident, but it appears it was caused by the burn through and gravity.

Lake Tulloch Sewage Leak update - lake water sample to State lab for analysis - updated

According to Brian Moss  Environmental Management Agency Administrator Director of Environmental Health/Air Pollution Control Officer:

"Staff investigated and confirmed that waste water was being released into Lake Tulloch from a compromised sewer lateral under the water on July 23, 2013.  The residence were instructed to immediately cease pumping waste water into the compromised sewer lateral and have the holding tank pumped to prevent any further release of waste water into the lake.

Although the lateral is no longer active, as a final action, staff sampled the lake water to identify bacteria levels in the area of concern on August 5, 2013.  This sample has been turned over to a State Certified Laboratory for analyses."

Update 8-7-13 9:13 am:
According to Brian Moss no signs were posted in the area of question due to the  waste water pump being deactivated and the "potential health hazard was immediately remediated on July 23, 2013."

State Controller releases Stockton audits

SACRAMENTO – State Controller John Chiang today released a series of audits focusing on the City of Stockton. The Controller found significant weaknesses in the City's fiscal management practices and internal controls  which, if left unaddressed, will continue to invite wasteful spending and abuse of public resources. The audits also found that the City misused cash in its gas tax fund , and is unlawfully holding former redevelopment agency (RDA) assets .
"Stockton is not Bell – we found no evidence that corruption and self-dealing drove this city into insolvency," said Chiang. "Instead, many of Stockton’s problems can be tracked to poor decision-making that was not only ill-informed by weak accounting and fiscal management systems, but failed to heed downward-trending data that should have curbed spending and borrowing decisions."

Sewage Leak into Lake Tulloch - "situation quickly taken care of" updated

According to Supervisor Ponte a sewage leak "was detected on the O'Byrnes Bridge (Calaveras) side of lake about 10-14 days ago. Various public agencies were notified  - Cal Cty, CCWD, Tri Dam, CA Water Board, etc.  The situation was quickly taken care of to avoid further spills, signage was posted in area. Various agencies and property owner are now working on long term solutions."

Update 9:31 am:
Response from Susan Larson Tri-Dam:
"Yes, a complaint was filed about a potential sewage spill involving a private line under the reservoir.  Immediately receipt of the complaint, a joint inspection was filed with all responsible local agencies represented including the Calaveras County Water District, Calaveras County Environmental Management Agency, Calaveras County Building Department, Calaveras County Code Compliance and Tri-Dam.  At the time of the inspection, the line was closed and is non-operational, upon order by the County and the onsite holding is being pumped and the waste is being transported to the treatment facility.  Calaveras County then quickly issued a Notice of Violation and request for submittal of a corrective plan.  Tri-Dam was notified, participated in these meetings and supports the County’s prompt response and action to protect reservoir waters."

Update 10:56:
The Copper Gazette has received information that another sewage leak from the same property occurred within the last 24 hours.  We arrived on scene and found no signs posted. We are still awaiting responses from Brian Moss of Environmental Health and CCWD. We will update as information comes in.

The Compleat Wks of Wllm Shkspr (abridged) Murphys Creek Theater

Three guys, one dead playwright, and thirty-seven plays, all in under two hours. The whole family will enjoy watching three talented actors, armed with an outrageous assortment of outerwear and props, cram the Bard’s entire canon of plays (and sonnets) into 90 minutes of high-speed, over-the-top hilarity! This endearingly irreverent and lightning-paced romp through the greatest plays of all time will have you rolling with laughter and jumping out of your seats.

Come Out of the Darkness and Show Your Support. Come walk with us. (Pledge form attached)
Help us to break the stigma and end the silence of suicide. Depression is treatable.
We are desperately in need of volunteers to assist prior to the event and day of the event. No experience necessary, just the desire to help a few women raise the awareness and prevention of suicide. We couldn’t do it without you. We are in need of some able bodies to help set-up and dismantle, sell raffle tickets, sponsors to help fund or donate products (water, energy bars, breakfast items, etc), raffle prizes, etc. Tax deductible! (Donation form attached.) We will be out and about pounding the pavement to collect donations. Please call, e-mail or text any one of us:
