Aspiring young tennis players from
throughout Calaveras and it neighboring counties are invited to take part in
the 15th annual Youth Tennis Clinic to be held at Bret Harte High
School, Angels Camp on Saturday, May 17 from 9 to 11 a.m.
There is no charge for the clinic that
will be led by Angella Woods, a United States Professional Tennis Association
(USPTA) professional. It is open to
elementary through high school students regardless of current ability.
Assisting Woods will be local high
school coaches and other tennis-teaching professionals.
“Many youth from local and
surrounding counties have participated in past free clinics,” says Woods. “All players, beginners to advanced, are
encouraged to participate. This is a
great opportunity for junior players to meet with other aspiring tennis players
in the community.”
During
the free clinic players will be paired in groups according to age and ability
where they will receive instruction through a variety of fun games and
drills.
“It is our
goal for each student to have fun while learning the skills needed to build a
strong foundation for the game of tennis, states Woods. “All participants
in the clinic will also be entered in a drawing for a chance to win a free
racket.”
The clinic is made possible with the
help of local volunteers and by its sponsors, the Murphys Area Community Tennis
Association (MACTA), USPTA’s Tennis Across America, Prince Tennis, and Volkl
Tennis.
The May 17 free clinic is an
introduction to a summer series of tennis clinics to be offered by Woods from
June 9 through July 14 in Angels Camp and Murphys.
