I
am Pat Garrahan and I’m a candidate for Calaveras County Sheriff.
I
love Calaveras County. That is why my
wife Kate and I chose Valley Springs 22 years ago as the place to raise our
three children.
I
am a United States Marine Corps veteran and have over three decades of
professional law enforcement experience. I started my career in a small town
and later worked in a large urban city. After
I retired, I served two combat deployments in Afghanistan as a Law Enforcement
Advisor for the U.S. Marine Corps.
I
have a broad base of policing experience in different communities and cultures.
I want to put my experience to work for you.
Throughout
my career, I have pursued educational opportunities that support my service to
the community. I have a Bachelor’s
Degree in Criminal Justice and a Master’s Degree in Criminology.
I
am a member of the Marine Corps League and West Calaveras Rotary club. I am
also a mentor with the Calaveras Youth Mentoring Program.
Your
safety and the safety of your family is my priority. It is also important that the deputies who
risk their lives every day have faith in their leadership. I also know that our
correctional officers and civilian staff are vital to the overall success of
the Sheriff’s Office.
The
sheriff must be a law enforcement leader, not a lone institution. We must work
cooperatively with our partners to ensure that public safety carries the day
and we get things accomplished. The sheriff also has the responsibility of
protecting your civil liberties against excessive government intrusion.
I
am alive today because of firearms; I used them on and off duty to protect
myself and others. I fully support CCW and believe law abiding citizens should
to be able to protect themselves. Recently I received an “A” rating from the
California Rifle and Pistol Association based upon my stance on CCW and the 2nd
Amendment.
We
need to focus on proactive crime prevention, reducing response times, ensure
adequate staffing and equipment, and improving communications with you, the
public.
Since
my opponent was elected, both violent crime and property crime have gone up
exponentially. We need to reverse this
trend.
We
need effective leadership and a smarter approach to today’s challenges. We need a new Sheriff.
I
am honored to have the endorsement of the Calaveras County Deputy Sheriffs
Association and the Calaveras Consolidated Firefighters Association. I also
gained the endorsement of the statewide Peace Officers Research Association of
California (PORAC) and have the support and endorsements of numerous local
business owners and residents.
