Calaveras Community Foundation - Grant Cycle Opens

In 2013, Calaveras Community Foundation introduced the idea of focusing on initiatives for grant giving. The two initiatives chosen were: Aging in Place for Seniors and Support for Learning of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM). The results, based on the number of viable applications received were gratifying.  In 2014, those same two initiatives will still be in place with the addition of a third: County Youth – designed to foster youth development in extra-curricular activities for ages K-12.

An additional change in the 2014 grant processing cycle is an earlier submission period for all grants applications. Applications will begin to be accepted on March 1, 2014 and must be submitted to CCF by 5:00 PM on Friday, March 31, 2014.  As in 2013, ALL applications for competitive grants MUST address one of the three initiatives to be considered for funding. Complete details, application guidelines and fillable forms are now available on the website www.calaverascommunityfoundation.org in the “Grants and Scholarships” area.

The strategic planning process by the CCF Board of Directors last year focused on how best to increase monetary donations (used to fund the grant process) and better meet the needs of more Calaveras County residents.  This change of focus was very successful and as a result more than $72,000 was awarded to a total of thirteen (13) applicants. This amount well exceeds funds given in prior years.

Eight benefactors in the Aging in Place for Seniors were chosen: Calaveras County Senior Center, Inc., Common Grounds Senior Services, Inc., Mother Lode Office of Catholic Charities,
Murphys Senior Center and the Mobile Senior Dental Hygiene Program.

The STEM initiative funds went to Calaveras High School, Mountain Oaks School, Stewardship Through Education, LLC, The Friends of Railroad Flat School and Valley Springs Youth.

Calaveras Community Foundation is grateful for loyal individual donors and corporate partners whose generosity allows funding of viable projects that benefit our county residents, students and seniors.  Since it’s inception in 2000, CCF has provided more than $750,000 in competitive grants, scholarships and assistance.
