David Griffith of Griff’s BBQ in Town Square is well underway with creating what he hopes to be a “great place to hang out.” He envisions a saloon with a rough hewn solid wood bar and lighting from carriage lights reminiscent of the oil lamps of days gone by and a dining area crisscrossed with thick ceiling beams cut from 100 year old barn beams. “I want to bring in the history of the area…the rich gold mining and copper mining history.”
Preparing the rough wood for this endeavor is local timber works company Timbercraft Designs out of Murphy’s. Owner Anthony Armstrong proudly showed the 100 year old beams and the wood he is ‘aging’ on the spot to match the naturally aged beams. Anthony prides himself on collecting the finest woods from aging barns and outbuildings throughout California. In the past he has even brought home some wood from milling houses from as far away as Montana. He says that ranchers will call to have him remove their old barn that has deteriorated or blow down, and has either become a hazard to their livestock or a fire hazard. From that old barn wood Anthony creates a thing of beauty.
Griff’s BBQ is hoping to open the middle of April. The Copper Gazette will keep you posted as of the opening day of this, sure to be, mouthwatering dining experience.
