Sports Pub donates to VFW

At the 7-20-14 VFW Post 12118 meeting a representative from the Sports Pub, Vietnam Veteran Don Shand, donated a $600.00 check to the VFW for Support the Troops Care Packages.

The funds were raised by the Sports Pubs annual Hot Rods and Harleys Poker Run held the second Saturday of June each year. The poker run idea was hatched by Sports Pub owner Micki Phillips and friend Charity Maness, both Ladies Auxiliary members, in an effort to raise funds specifically for Support the Troop Care Packages. Quickly, folks jumped in to help, organizing, advertising, etc, all to make sure that those serving overseas received a little love from home.

This year's Poker Run ran to San Andreas, Murphys, Tuttletown, Jamestown and back to Copper. Approximately 60 poker run enthusiasts participated.

2nd annual Poker run for Support the Troops care packages brings hot rods and Harleys to Copper

Over 50 bikes and hot rods participated in the 2nd annual Hot Rods and Harleys Poker run for the VFW hosted by the Sports Pub June 14, 2014.

The run traveled from Micki and Larrys Sports Pub in Copper to VFW Post 2600 in San Andreas, Murphys Hotel, the Red Barn in Tuttletown and the Willow Steakhouse in Jamestown. The run raised funds for VFW Post 12118 Ladies Aux Support the Troops Car Packages.

Many riders brought items to donate to the boxes that will be shipped to military serving overseas.

Twice yearly the VFW Ladies Aux mails out boxes to troops overseas. If you know of someone who would appreciate a care package from home please email their info to Commander Gilbert at coppervfw@gmail.com.

Saturday June 14, 2014 – check in time 10 am.

The 2nd annual Sports Pub Hot Rod & Harleys Poker Run is a Fundraising event for our local James D. Piper VFW Post 12118. The cost is $20.00 per person. In addition to registration please bring one item to donate to ship to our “support the Troops’ care packages. Examples: cards, toothbrushes, foot powder, hard candy, beef jerky, crossword puzzles, etc.

The route will follow the back roads of the foothills winding through some of the most beautiful landscape you have seen. Beginning at the Sports Pub in Copperopolis the route will head to San Andreas VFW Post 2600, then off to beautiful Murphys and the Murphys Hotel. The route will then take you to just outside Angels Camp to the Red Barn. From there the ride will mosey its way along to Jamestown to the Willow Steakhouse and Saloon and returning to the Sports Pub in Copperopolis for fun, music and a great bbq meal!

Prizes for 1st and 2nd place poker hands -as well as special gifts for Hottest Harley and Hottest Hot Rod - will be awarded at 4:00 pm.
