Copper Elementary 4th graders take a romp through Copper History

Thanks to the commitment of the Copperopolis Community Center, the history of Copperopolis comes to life each year for the second and fourth grade classes at Copperopolis Elementary.
Coordinating the event with the students classroom curriculum the CCC brings history alive by walking the children through the historic parts of town telling tales and lore of days gone by as well as facts and statistics of this great town.

After a few cancellations due to the weather, finally and with much anticipation, on October 29, 2012, 32 children from the fourth grade classrooms taught by Mrs. Bauer (substitute the day of the walk by Mrs. Mercado) had the joy of participating in this historic excursion including lessons on the cannon and the bell, Madam Felix, the mines, the cemetery and the museum. Finishing at the old red brick church for some songs and cookies.

Thank you Ileana Grycel for providing the great photos of this event.

Copper History comes alive for Copper 2nd graders

The two second grade classrooms from Copperopolis Elemenary school received a time honored treat on Monday October 15, 2012 when participants from the Copperopolis Community Center took them on a historical walking tour of Copperopolis.

Lead by Linda Beck - the outgoing, theatrical and incredibly well informed guide - the children made stops at the canon and the bell, the Stone house, the McCarty house, the Post Office and the Old Church. Finishing the tour at the red brick 'congregational church' the children were regaled with music and songs from days gone by from more Community Center volunteers dressed in period clothing.

At the post office the children received an additional surprise as Engineer Nick Maness and Firefighter Kyle Nordvik took the opportunity to talk with the children about fire safety - apropos as October is fire prevention month.

The Copperopolis Community Center hosts this event each year for the 2nd and 4th grade classrooms at Copperopolis Elementary, building on the knowledge that has been gleaned in the traditional classroom setting and creating a hands on learning environment to help make history come alive for the children of Copper.

The British Open is played for the first time, won by Willie Park.
World first iron hulled battleship, British HMS warrior, is launched.
