Sonora PD press release re: Assault resulting in great bodily injury

3 December 2012, at approx. 6:51 pm, Officers from the Sonora Police Department responded to an apartment complex located on the 200 block of Greenley Rd., regarding an assault.
When officers arrived, they contacted the victim Laura Mansfield, 22 of Sonora, and several witnesses. Mansfield and witnesses related that Mansfield had gone to an apartment to retrieve a pair of socks from a female subject. While at the apartment a verbal altercation erupted between Mansfield and the other female.


Then for no apparent reason, the female’s boyfriend, Timothy Barlass, 19 of Sonora, charged Mansfield and punched her in the face knocking her to the ground. Once Mansfield was on the ground, Barlass continued to punch and kick Mansfield. At one point Barlass grabbed Mansfield’s head and slammed it into a door several times. The attack left Mansfield unconscious for approx. five minutes according to witnesses.
Mansfield was transported by ambulance to Sonora Regional Medical Center for treatment. Barlass was contacted and taken into custody without incident. He was transported to the Tuolumne County Jail and booked for felony battery resulting if great bodily injury.
The investigation into this matter is continuing.
