19 December 2012, at approx. 5:58 pm, the Sonora Police
Department received a call of a vehicle vs. pedestrian accident at the
intersection of S. Washington Street and East Jackson Street.
During the investigation it was learned that George Sapp, 55 of
Sonora, had pulled along the east side of S. Washington Street to
parallel park in a red zone at the intersection of East Jackson Street.
Two females were standing on the south/east corner of S.
Washington Street and East Jackson Street, waiting to cross S.
Washington Street from the east to the west.
As Sapp backed his 2000 Ford F-150 pick-up, he drove up onto the
sidewalk and struck both of the female pedestrians, knocking them to
the ground. Both females were transported to Sonora Regional Medical
Center by ambulance. One female pedestrian sustained a large laceration
to the back of her head and to her right elbow. The other female
pedestrian complained of neck, back, should and abdominal pain.
Following field sobriety tests, Sapp was arrested without
incident for felony driving under the influence. Sapp was transported to
the Tuolumne County Jail and booked on felony driving under the
influence charges.
