Under general supervision, Engineers
operate and maintain fire apparatus,
conduct safety checks of apparatus, and
ensure fire, rescue, and medical equipment
is response ready.
They have primary
responsibility for vehicle and pump
operations; respond to fire alarms, medical
rescue, or assistance calls; prevent, combat
and extinguish fires; attend to medical or
rescue emergencies and provide life
support; respond to hazardous materials
incidents; operate district apparatus and
vehicles; attend training sessions;
participate in fire drills and exercises; assist
in training of personnel; maintain
apparatus, equipment and quarters in a
clean and ready condition at all times;
participate in programs and projects that
ensure operational readiness; apply the
principles of modern firefighting practices;
participate in fire prevention, education and
safety demonstrations, assist in inspections
to ensure code compliance for fire and life
safety; test hose and pumps; and perform
other duties and projects.
Engineers must maintain a level of physical
fitness in order to adequately and safely
perform all activities related to the job.
Engineers must be able to communicate
well using verbal and written skills to write
reports, interview witnesses, read and
follow instructions, speak publicly, etc.
Minimum Qualifications
Meet and maintain Firefighter Minimum
Qualifications (see Job Description)
Current California Drivers License valid
for the operation of fire apparatus
CSFTES Driver Operator 1A & 1B
Certification
ICS-200 Certification
Current Candidate Physical Ability Test
Certificate (CPAT) or equivalent.
Minimum of four years as a firefighter
High School diploma or GED
No felony convictions or disqualifying
criminal history within the past seven
years
Full Time Position(s) with a
monthly salary range of $3,421.57
to $4,158.94 plus ‘FLSA’ overtime
of $631 - $767.
