Sheriff Dept Press release re:Murphys Woman Arrested for Commercial Burglary (shoplifting)

(Murphys, CA) On 12/04/12 at approx. 2:00 pm Calaveras Sheriff’s deputies responded to the Sierra Hills Market in Murphys for a report of a shoplifter whom store employees had detained. According to a store employee, Suspect Kelly Jo Terry (43) of Murphys walked out of the store to her car carrying a basket full of groceries. She was in the process of loading the groceries in her car when store employees confronted and detained her.


Upon being interviewed Suspect Terry admitted to the theft, stating that she entered Sierra Hills Market knowing that she was going to steal the items. She also said that she had no means to pay for the items. The total dollar amount for the stolen items was $68.40. Additionally, Suspect Terry stated that she had stolen items from the grocery store in the past, but had not been caught.

Suspect Terry was arrested and booked into the Calaveras County jail on the charges of Burglary (felony) and Committing Theft with a Prior Theft Conviction (felony). In 2008 Suspect Terry was convicted of theft in Tuolumne County.
