Calaveras County Bike Safety - Saturday April 9, 9-11 am

Calaveras County is providing bicycle safety training courses for youth who reside within the County. Bicycle safety training sessions will be conducted at eight locations on four Saturdays in April and May, 2011. Training in Copperopolis will be held April 9, 2011 from 9 to 11 am at Copperopolis Elementary School. Funding for this program is provided by a Transportation Enhancement (TE), American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) grant.

Sessions will last approximately two hours. All participants who complete the full session will be provided with a free helmet, other giveaways related to bicycle safety, and a certificate of completion. The sessions will be led by League of American Bicyclists-certified instructors (LCIs). The sessions are open to all Calaveras County residents (6 years of age and older), but will be a "bike rodeo" format, geared toward children ages 6 to 11.

Participating children will receive helmet fitting assistance, bicycle safety checks and bicycle safety instruction, including brief lectures and on-bike skills practice. There is no charge to County residents. On-line registration is encouraged.
