Don and Patt Hopper - 2014 Homecoming Parade Grand Marshals!!!!

The 2014 Copperopolis Homecoming Grand Marshals are 20 year residents of Copperopolis and active community volunteers, Don and Patt Hopper.
The Copperopolis Homecoming Grand Marshal is a position granted by the Copperopolis Community Center (CCC) board to those who have, over the years, proven themselves to be not only community oriented, but most often have been found to go above and beyond in their efforts to make Copperopolis a wonderful place to call home.
Upon arriving in Copperopolis in 1994, the Hoppers joined the local square dancing group where they met many community oriented and like minded people. This was their springboard into community involvement.
Soon, the dynamic duo were volunteering on the CCC board helping to restore and renovate the historic Brick Church and the Armory in Copperopolis.   “Being on the board” said Don, “wasn’t as prestigious as one would think. It was about hard work and team work; a team commitment for the betterment of the community. Pride in where we live.”
From there the two became involved in home bible studies, which morphed into a small church, one which is now the Copper Canyon Baptist Church. “It started right here” said Patt with a sparkle in her eye, “right here, at this very kitchen table.” The church found a new home at Copperopolis Elementary School, holding their first service on “Easter Sunday 8 years ago.”
Not stopping at bible studies and church formations, the two – who love children “anything with kids, you put ‘kid’ on it and it’s a magnet for me,” said Patt, with Don agreeing strongly, would bring their personal trailer to the church for a nursery area. Soon a donation of a trailer frame was made and Don built a ‘real’ school trailer for the church youth. The trailer has been used by Parks and Recs, church youth groups, school functions, and more.

Grand Marshal's of the 2013 Copperopolis Homecoming Parade

Don and Maggie moved to Copperopolis in 2005 and it wasn’t long before they found themselves volunteering in the community starting with Copperopolis Parks & Recreation.  Don is a member of the Copperopolis Volunteer Firefighter Association and goes out on many calls, some with his son Levi who is a Cadet with the Copperopolis Fire District’s Explorer’s Program.  Don also is serving his third year as President of the Association.  You will see Don and Levi at many fund raising events such as the Fill the Boot for the Food Pantry on Memorial Day and Labor Day, the Chili Cook-off at Town Square in January, and often at the monthly Bingo at Black Creek Park.  Don was also a member of the Copperopolis Planning Commission.
Maggie volunteers at the Copperopolis Elementary School and facilitates the reading intervention program “Read Naturally.”  She also coordinates “The Homework Club” and helps out at “Kids Club,” both of which are after school programs sponsored by the Copperopolis Baptist Church.  At present, she is serving her second term as a member of the Mark Twain Union Elementary School Board.  She also volunteers as Treasurer for Bret Harte Angels, Inc.
Don and Maggie are active in the Copper Hills 4H Club as Alpaca group leaders together with their son, Levi, and daughter, Pearl, who both help and participate.  Each year, the alpaca competition is held on the second Saturday in May at the County Fair.
The Rollings family appreciates living in our Copperopolis community where so much heart and helping hands make a difference and life that much richer.

Sandy and Cliff moved to Copperopolis in 1992 and soon became active volunteers in the Community. In 1993 Sandy was elected to The Copperopolis Community Centers Board of Director’s. In 1997 she became President of the Board and has served as Board President for the last 16 years. They were very active in the restoration of the Old Historical Church, which lay dormant and deteriorating for many years. The Church has once again become a place of worship.  They were also involved in the many major restoration projects at The Old Historical Armory. This building is used for many community and county functions.  Sandy and the members of her Board devote many hours of their time and efforts to the maintenance and restoration of these two old publicly owned Historical Buildings.
In the 21 years they have lived in Copperopolis, both Sandy and Cliff have volunteered their services to other community Organizations such as Friends of the Library and in the early years the Lions Club.

Homecoming Grand Marshals

Copperopolis Homecoming Parade 2012 Grand Marshals

 Nancy Dahlberg and Justine Nantelle

For many years, these two hard working ladies, Justine Nantelle and Nancy Dahlberg have worked as volunteers for the Copperopolis Community Center working such fund raisers as the annual Wine Tasting in January and Homecoming in June.  For the Copperopolis Elementary School Historical Tours, sponsored by the Community Center, you will see them dressed in period clothing and giving out cookies to the children on the tour.  They are always there to help whenever they are needed.
Not only do they volunteer for the CCC, but Justine also supports The Volunteer Fireman’s Association, and The Lions Club. If there is a happening in Copperopolis, you will probably see one or both of these ladies doing their thing, helping the community and doing it with a smile on their face. They deserve to be recognized for their support within our community.
