The Mirror Project piques interest in Copper residents grand daughter

Ariana Gonzalez, the 14 year old grand daughter of Town Hall Arts Susie Hoffman, is spending her summer in Copperopolis so that she may participate in the Murphys Creek Theater Mirror Project, an intensive Shakespearean training and performance experience for students ages 10-17.

Ariana has been in a few school plays before but nothing like this experience. "I have been and extra and a minor, but never a lead." Though she will get her chance on July 11th,  as the Mirror Project will be presenting Shakespeares 'The Twelfth Night' at Brice Station, where Ariana will 'lead' with 6 other Mirror Project youth.

Even though she plays three characters; Maria, Curio and a Police Officer with on stage wardrobe changes and fast action, Ariana felt  "the most difficult part was understanding the lines." Though it helps immensely that she enjoys her character. "Maria is fun, sassy, challenging, loud and rambunctious."

While Ariana hopes to one day become an actress, her plan 'B' is to become a teacher. Her favorite class in school is History.

The Mirror Project began in 2000 and is the brain child of actor/director Graham Scott Green.

The Twelfth Night will show 11, 13, 18, and 19 of July, with the youth performance on the July 20th and 21st.

The mirror project students this year are:
Christine Cummings
Edison Cummings
Naomi Elias
Ariana Gonzales
Raen Kuykendall
Alexandra Linton
Aidan O'Connell
"Ariana is one of two new students this year. She has grown a immensely as an actor in the short time we have been working together. Sometimes it can be hard to fit in a group when you are new but the mirror project is a safe place and the returning students embrace that spirit fully. Ariana and our other new student Naomi have both become integral parts of the program.  The most challenging aspect of the program this year is also the most rewarding. 7 students. The adult production has 13 actors. Most of the students have more than one role. They all have a lot of lines. While this could be a daunting task to some, these kids are grabbing this challenge with both hands and running with it. I am so proud of them all."

Producing Artistic Director, MCT

Director Tara Kayton is setting this summer’s production of Twelfth Night, one of Shakespeare’s finest comedies, in the1930 American Dust Bowl. Using a vagabond troupe of actors, steamer trunks, and an old truck the group will create a world in and around the audience that will be both interactive and intimate. We will engage Shakespeare’s tale of love and loss with live instruments, witty banter, and laughter. Audiences are welcome to carouse with food and wine on Brice Station Vineyards beautiful grassy hill surrounded by breathtaking views and evening stars. MCT is excited to have the return of: Ross Aldrich, Misty Amber Day, Sheila Doyle, Graham Scott Green, Mat Hepgood, Sean Lewis, Sid Marsh, Jason “Clocky” McDowell, Robert Zellars, and introduce: Emily Graham, and Taylor Hunt to the company.
