Sheriff Dept Advisory: Subject arrested at Valley Springs residence after narcotics related seach warrant service and shot fired at Sheriff's Office entry team.

On Wednesday September 5, 2012, members of the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Narcotics Enforcement Unit and members of the Department SWAT team served a Narcotics related search warrant at a residence in the 2300 block of Barbour Street in Valley Springs.

As members of the Sheriff’s Office commenced service of the warrant, Suspect Donald Madrid (age 74 of Valley Springs) fired one round from a handgun towards the SWAT team. Suspect Madrid fired the weapon while in a bedroom of the residence as the SWAT team approached the closed door. None of the deputies were struck by the bullet and Suspect Madrid was immediately taken into custody by the SWAT team without further incident.



Sheriff Detectives obtained a second search warrant in regards to the shot fired by Suspect Madrid and recovered an expended shell casing as well as a fired bullet from the interior of the residence. Narcotics investigators located methamphetamine and packaging in a quantity indicative of drug sales.

Suspect Madrid was booked into the Calaveras County Jail on the following charges:

11378 H&S Possession of a controlled substance for sale
11550(A) H&S Under the influence of a controlled substance
11550(E) H&S Under the influence while in the possession of a loaded firearm
664 190 P.C. Attempted Murder of a Peace Officer
12022.5 P.C. Enhancement for being armed with a firearm during the commission of a felony
