SAN ANDREAS
– Thursday, September 06, 2012 the weather system that moved through Calaveras
and Tuolumne Counties yesterday brought numerous lightning strikes which
sparked 24 fires within the two counties in the last 24 hours. The largest fire remains the SALT fire in Calaveras County which is 100% contained and
burned 84 acres. Fire personnel will
continue to patrol the two counties for “sleepers”, these are fires that may
not be seen until the heat returns and humidity levels become lower. Due to
the strategically placed resources throughout the two counties yesterday most
of the lightning fires were found, contained and controlled very quickly with
minimal acreage loss. There were no
injuries or structure loss associated with any of the fires.
